Congratulations to SOLINET members who won National Film Preservation Awards this spring:
Emory University - William Levi Dawson Collection (1953-71), seven home movies by the African American composer who founded the Tuskegee School of Music
University of Georgia - Max Moore Home Movie Collection (1942–52), footage from "King Biscuit Time," one of the first radio shows to feature live blues performances
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - Harllee/Quattlebaum Collection (1920s–30s), home movies of social gatherings at plantation homes, with footage of guides who were once slaves

Strategies for Winning Your E-Records Battles: Case Studies in Effective Records Management
NARA's Southeast Region is presenting this records management conference at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta on September 9, 2008. The program will also explore real-life case studies and e-records challenges. Comprised of speakers from NARA, other Federal agencies, and the private sector, four panels will address implementation strategies for RMA applications, potential use of collaborative electronic tools in business and RM environments,NARA’s records management training program and the positive impact it has had on maturing RM programs, and the application of Hurricane Katrina lessons-learned to the RM environment. - Stewardship of Digital Assets
A two-day workshop on sustaining digital collections
The Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC), in conjunction with PALINET, SOLINET, Amigos Library Services, and OCLC Western Service Center, is pleased to announce Stewardship of Digital Assets: Sustaining Digital Collections . This lecture and exercise-based workshop is designed to provide participants with tools and methods to assess their institution’s digital preservation needs and develop plans and policies to sustain their digital collections.
Stewardship of Digital Assets will be taught by a faculty of nationally known digital experts: Liz Bishoff, Tom Clareson, Robin Dale and Katherine Skinner.
This hands-on workshop will be presented at four locations across the country from Fall 2007 – Fall 2008. SPACE IS LIMITED TO 35 PEOPLE FOR EACH WORKSHOP.

The National Preservation Office (NPO) is pleased to announce the publication of 'Caring for CDs and DVDs'. This guidance leaflet can be downloaded.
Free printed copies are available on request. This leaflet has been produced in partnership with Collections Link .
- Collections Preventative Care Certificate Program
The Campbell Center for Historic Preservation Studies recently introduced a Collections Preventative Care Certificate Program for beginning professional, mid-level professional and senior professional levels. A Historic Preservation Certificate Program will be introduced in 2008. Visit Campbell's Web site for more information.
- New Publication from the Council of State Archivists
The Council of State Archivists (CoSA) is pleased to announce publication of a new manual designed to help individuals and families protect both essential legal documents and historical family records in case of disaster, Rescuing Family Records: A Disaster Planning Guide.
The 24-page manual is available for $10, plus $3 postage and handling, from CoSA . Proceeds will be used to support CoSA’s ongoing Emergency Preparedness Initiative.
