Resource Sharing Groups
Libraries can extend their resource-sharing capabilities further by joining additional groups that may have more members and cover a broader geographic area.
Group Access Capability
A Group Access Capability (GAC) group consists of libraries that use the OCLC system for resource sharing and interlibrary lending. OCLC profiles each member of a GAC group so that all members have access to each others. bibliographic, locations, and summary holdings records.
All SOLINET members with WorldCat Resource Sharing ILL subscriptions can
- Act as the borrower or lender
- Create and modify constant data records
- Search WorldCat using all search keys
- Display bibliographic records
- Display holdings of fellow GAC group members
- Retrieve displays representing holdings for their GAC/UL group
- Search the ILL Policies Directory
- Create and modify custom holdings groups and paths
- Use Help
- Borrow and lend items from other OCLC members, regardless of GAC affiliation
- Perform all OCLC ILL functions.
SOLINE and SO6
Any SOLINET member that uses OCLC's ILL service may join the SOLINE group. SOLINE members agree to lend to other SOLINE members at no charge. SOLINE members include all types of libraries throughout the Southeast.
SOLINE members may also want to join the SO6 group. The SO6 group is made up of libraries that participate in the SOLINE resource sharing group and agree to provide free photocopies to other SO6 participants. SOLINE members are not required to join SO6, but to be eligible for participation in SO6, a library must be profiled into the SOLINE group. The library must also union list or catalog its serials holdings using OCLC.
Participation in the SOLINE or SO6 group is a voluntary addition to SOLINET participation.
For a list of SOLINET libraries that participate in this program, you can perform a search in OCLC’s ILL Policies Directory for group symbol SL#N (for SOLINET) or SIXX (for SO6) and click on "Show Members."
To join SOLINE or SO6, please review the SOLINE Terms of Membership, then submit the SOLINE SO6 Registration Form indicating your intent to join. Please include full contact information and your OCLC symbol in your request.
LVIS - Libraries Very Interested in Sharing
Libraries Very Interested in Sharing (LVIS) is a nationwide resource sharing group. Members of LVIS agree to lend monographs to other LVIS members at no charge. To become an LVIS member, please fax a signed copy of the LVIS Participation Agreement to the Member Services Help Desk at 404.592.4969.
Once your request has been processed, the group symbol for LVIS will be added to the affiliations field of your library's ILL Policies Directory record.
Global Sharing Group
OCLC formed the Global Sharing Group to foster international resource sharing initiatives. With more than 6,900 libraries in 96 countries and territories around the world using the vast resources of WorldCat, international resource sharing represents an area of great opportunity. The Global Sharing Program makes this process easier while formalizing rules for borrowing beyond state and national boundaries.
The primary requirements for joining the Global Sharing GAC are
- Payment must be by ILL Fee Management
- Airmail or courier must be used for returnable material
- Fax or Ariel must be used for non-returnable material
- The library must lend to all participants within the global group access capability group
- Libraries will need to update their ILL Policies within the ILL Policies Directory to provide their policies for lending internationally and to include their Ariel or Odyssey IP address or Fax number in the communications field.
How to sign up
Any library wanting to participate in this GAC should complete and submit the online Application and Agreement Form.
